Nutrition Month: Fuel your body with healthy food

Food is the fuel to our body.  By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can take proactive steps in helping your body to get only premium fuel.

  1. Eat a balanced diet: Include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your meals to ensure you’re getting all the essential nutrients your body needs.
  1. Portion control: Be mindful of the portion sizes you consume, as overeating can lead to weight gain and other health issues. Use smaller plates and bowls to help control your portions.
  1. Hydrate properly: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Avoid sugary drinks and opt for water, herbal tea, or infused water instead.
  1. Limit processed foods: Processed foods often contain high amounts of unhealthy fats, added sugars, and sodium. Choose whole, unprocessed foods whenever possible for optimal nutrition.
  1. Reduce salt intake: Too much sodium can increase the risk of high blood pressure and other health problems. Limit your intake by cooking at home using fresh ingredients and avoiding processed foods.

  1. Watch your fat intake: Choose healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil over saturated and trans fats found in fried foods and processed snacks.
  1. Practice mindful eating: Pay attention to your body’s hunger and fullness cues while eating. Slow down, chew your food thoroughly, and savour each bite to fully enjoy your meal and prevent overeating.
